Good Morning:

Alaaf und Helau! Hello again everyone!

If you have not already made plans to join us next Saturday evening, Feb. 22nd, for our Elferrat Fasching Mardis Gras “Masken” Party at the GAC, there’s plenty of still time.  Dress up in your favorite Mardis Gras mask and/or costume for a chance to win $200 in cash prizes for the best mask or costume.

Fasching is another name for the Mardi Gras (or Carnival) season. In northern Germany, they call it Fastnacht or Karneval – but Fasching is the most common name in Bavaria.

This party is a fundraiser to help our GAC pay for expenses, including the refrigerator repair or replacement. Net proceeds from this event will be donated to the club.

Come enjoy a good meal, renew old friendships, and support your German American Club! Our own multi-talented Jim Brauer will be D.J.’ing music for our party.  Peter and Okmi Blemel are preparing a meal of Gasthof Roast Pork (German country inn style pork roast), spaetzel, vegetable, roll, and dessert. There’s no better offer in town for $10 at the door and $15 for dinner to benefit the club.

We are taking reservations and would love to have you join us! RSVP for dinner by calling or texting 505.991.1209 or 505.991.2112. Invite friends and former club members to come and support our club, enjoy Carnival, and become club members.

The Elferrat (German for “council of eleven”) is the council of a kingdom of fools in German Mardis Gras, or carnival who host carnival events at the GAC during the season, such as dances and meals.  “Alaaf” and “Helau” are traditional German carnival shouts, meaning” hurrah” or “let’s party” during the festive season. “Alaaf” is primarily associated with Cologne and “Helau” is heard in cities like Mainz and Düsseldorf.

We look forward to having you join us for the 2024-2025 Fasching Mardis Gras “Masken” Party!

PLEASE, let us know if you’re attending, and how many will be in your party.
